A Timeline of Trump: Week 1 and 2

January 20th

-At 12:00 PM Donald J. Trump takes the oath of office, officially becoming the 45th President of the United States.

-Trump breaks the emoluments clause of the Constitution and terms of his DC hotel ownership by refusing to divest from his companies the minute he takes office.

-Trump instructs his Press Secretary to baldly lie to the press about the crowd size at his inauguration.

-Trump raises prices on low income government housing tenants as his first policy change.

-A plurality of Americans disapprove of his job performance according to multiple pollsters.

-Trump orders his first military strike. The initial strike targeted Al Qaeda militants in central Yemen and resulted in the deaths of a handful of militants, civilians and one U.S service member in a largely botched raid in the style of the 2011 assassination of Osama Bin Laden. Days after the raid it was revealed that the target of the raid was Qassim Al-Rimi Al Qaeda’s number three leader. Among those killed are a baby and an 8 year old girl with American citizenship. The decision was made over dinner with Steve Bannon and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

January 21st

-The largest mass protest in history takes place with over 4 million Americans coming out against Trump and 5 million worldwide.

-KellyAnne Conway coins the term “alternate facts” to describe lies from the administration in an interview regarding Sean Spicer’s false claims about Trump’s inauguration.

January 23rd

-Trump appoints Ajit Pau to head the FCC. A pro-corporate, anti-net neutrality pick.

January 24th

-Trump approves Keystone and DAPL (two pipelines he has financial stake in) through an executive order. The reason given is the creation of jobs despite a study showing Keystone’s construction would only create around 50 permanent jobs.

-Trump censors government workers via gag order preventing them from sharing wide swaths of information about departmental findings and activities with the public. After a major public backlash, the Trump White House rescinded parts of the order.

-Trump floats Martial Law in Chicago after a Bill O’Reilly segment.
