Republicans had a crowded field of candidates in 2016. After 8 years out of power, a deep bench had developed in hopes of becoming the next President. At its peak, a total of 17 candidates ran for the Presidency. For most of the contest many believed that no candidate would get a majority of the delegates, and a brokered convention would happen at the RNC.
