The Political Realignment

Recently politics has changed in many ways. It’s been harder to predict and far more volatile. Why is that? Because of a political transformation within the country. This is called “Political Realignment”. This is when a party’s coalition and/or ideology change significantly. Those don’t happen often. The last real big one was 1964 and 1932 (a shift in coalition and ideology). 1980 and 1992 are smaller (ideological shifts). If it continues, it will mean a more moderate Democratic Party that mitigates the incredibly liberal younger generation. The following looks at the most important factors as to why.
