Here’s what to know about Kamala Harris:

She’s experienced enough to be President. She’s 59 years old, having served nearly 4 years as Vice President, 4 years as a Senator from California, and 6 years as Attorney General of California. Her current approval is a mere 38.6% with 50.4% disapproval as of today. Most of this comes from her association with Biden who has 38.5% approval and 56.2% disapproval. While these numbers are stunningly bad, she has about a 7 point advantage on Biden there alone. Trump’s favorability is underwater by net -12.4%. Harris’s as well, at net -11.8%, outperforming Trump by 0.6%. Trump leads Biden by 3.7% in polling, but his lead falls to 1.9% with Harris. She’s well known but not Biden. This means polls may be underestimating her support a bit, but not as much as other Democratic candidates the country largely doesn’t know. She would make history as our first woman President, first Asian President, and second African American President. She’d be the first President since Andrew Jackson (1829) to be a second generation immigrant. She would be the 5th President to have no children.

While I believe she might win, and might even be favored to win, she wouldn’t be the strongest candidate Democrats could muster. In 2020 Harris spent $41 million to ultimately get 844 votes-spending an eye popping $49,000 per vote. Like Biden, she’s a bit gaffe prone, her campaign badly mismanaged and she dropped out over 2 months before the first primaries. She’s not an electoral juggernaut. She won her first election in 2010 by only 0.8% in deep blue California. She appointed…
